The Worth at Work book makes a simple case: when people feel valued, exceptional service follows. Here’s what it’s about, who it’s for, and where to find it:

WHAT’S IT ABOUT?

Hospitality loses people faster than almost any other industry. Burnout runs high, turnover sits between 70 and 80 percent a year, and most organizations answer the same way every time: more training, tighter standards, more pressure to perform.

Worth at Work makes a different case. Exceptional service does not start with better scripts or forced smiles. It starts with the internal experience of the people delivering it. When people feel grounded in their own worth, service becomes authentic, teams find their footing, and cultures change from the inside out.

While rooted in hospitality, the message reaches any service role, from healthcare and transportation to retail and customer experience. Anywhere people are asked to show up, stay present, and serve others, what happens on the inside shapes every interaction on the outside.

WHO’S IT FOR?

  • Every service professional who has ever felt like a robot
  • Leaders who know their team is capable of more
  • Organizations ready to keep the people they count

Equal parts practical guide, leadership playbook, and wake-up call for any industry that depends on people serving people.

INSIDE THE WORTH AT WORK BOOK:

Worth at Work hands readers a set of tools they can put to work right away:

  • The “bully voice” and the “best friend voice” that shape how people talk to themselves
  • The difference between self-esteem and ego
  • The energy ball for tracking how personal energy gets spent and restored
  • The four dimensions of self
  • The “We Over Me” approach to building collective confidence

PRAISE FOR WORTH AT WORK

“Worth at Work challenges the industry to look deeper, making a compelling case that exceptional service does not come from forcing people to smile harder, but from creating environments where people feel valued, supported, and grounded from the inside out.”

STEVE CARRAN

“Haveson and Nisson have identified and captured the essence of what is required to consistently deliver exceptional service. Worth at Work is a must-read.”

BRENDA TSCHARNER

“This methodology is beautiful because it’s customizable and gives you exactly what you need when you need it. The timing couldn’t be better because emotional intelligence truly is humanity’s best chance in today’s workplace.”

ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Randy Haveson, MA - hospitality workplace culture consultant and founder of WORTH@WOR

RANDY HAVESON, MA | Founder and President of WORTH@WORK

Randy Haveson is the Founder and President of WORTH@WORK. He brings a rare combination to his work: the depth of a mental health professional and the instincts of someone who has served on the front line. His Master’s in Counseling lets him reach the psychological foundations of workplace culture, while his years in both higher education and hospitality keep every solution grounded in what teams actually face on a shift. After building award-winning mental health and wellness programs at universities across the country, he carried that expertise into hospitality service, including a role as a greeter at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, where he earned more than 500 guest compliments.

That mix of study and lived experience is the heart of WORTH@WORK, where Randy helps service organizations move past burnout and turnover to a place of genuine value and internal worth. A TEDx speaker and the author of Party with a Plan and Becoming Your Own BFF, Randy has spoken at venues including Notre Dame, Johns Hopkins, and Brown. He doesn’t only study how people change. Randy has lived it, finding his way from rock bottom to authentic confidence, and he has helped thousands do the same.
